If you're an avid concert goer, finding information about shows in Toronto is an unwelcome challenge. Navigating through Now magazine and their chaotic arrangements over multiple pages, incomplete listings on sites like Toronto Life and Toronto.com...it's tons of work for an experience you're looking to enjoy and invest into. Justshows.com have recently launched their site to fill a void in the Toronto scene by aggregating all the live music information you'll need. Their tag line says it all: Live music listings, only better.
Justshows.com is the brain child of Mark Pesci, Chris Slorach (METZ) and Greg Sullivan (Swivelbase Web Design). Mark and Chris are independent promoters, and Greg is the web wiz on this venture. You can see how this concept became reality with these 3 gents at the table.
Upon your first visit to justshows.com, the simplicity of the site refreshingly jumps out at you. Concerts are listed in chronological order and a quick click will bring you to the concert details. The venue's location is shown using Google Maps with a ticket purchase link on the left which will redirect you to the proper vendor. At this time, the main page can be filtered by date, wheter the show is all ages and recently announced concerts. Just Shows also has a search feature for quick results.
If you have a band, the submission process to get your listing up is very simple. All you have to do is email toronto@justshows.com. They ask that you include your show’s date, venue, start time, price and ticketing information along with the appropriate web links.
I was curious about how all of this came to be. Chris was kind enough to answer some of my questions regarding Just Shows.

On the creation of Just Shows:
Just shows was created as a way to keep people, including ourselves, informed on what is happening in Toronto. Our goal is to offer as much information as possible to live music patrons so they can make an educated decision on how to spend their concert budget.
On how the concert information is collected:
At the moment this is collected and entered by Mark and myself. The website is still evolving and we are looking at better ways to have the information entered. For the time being we will continue to accept and upload information manually.
On additional features:
We have a lot of new features in the works, the website is brand new and still needs a few tweeks here and there. We would like to offer an RSS and calendar exporter in the near future as well as a simple show submission form.
On expansion to other cities:
It's definitely something we have in mind. At the moment our focus is to have Toronto working efficiently then we will discuss other cities. Any city with an active live music community is ideal for the Just Shows template.
On the future of the site and mission:
We would love justshows.com to be a go to website for travel and tourism. We hope to keep widening our social reach and increasing the simplicity of the website.
Chris also added that if you have questions, comments or suggestions about justshows.com, feel free to send them to info@justshows.com. You can follow them on Twitter here and like their Facebook page here.
Take the time to head over to Just Shows and sign up for the free weekly newsletter. You know P&B are all over that.
