GLAAD Hate On Tyler, the Creator; Claims to Enjoy Any Hateration Thrown His Way

(Photo via okmagazine.com)
2011 is shaping up to be one hell of a year for Tyler and his Odd Future posse. Crooner Frank Ocean is on the brink of super stardom. And now the outspoken Creator is a household name thanks to an MTV VMA win for Best New Artist for "Yonkers" (if you haven't seen it yet, click here). The kid seemed genuinely overwhelmed when he accepted the Moon Man trophy, as evident by his improvised speech and his awkwardness.

Here's what Tyler tweeted after winning the award:

I Dont See How People Win Those Things And Go Up There All Calm And Like, Eh, Whatever Thanks....That Shit Gets My Nerves All Weird

He definitely wasn't too shy to bring out his potty mouth as he was censored during his time on the mic (props to Weezy for receiving the Most Bleeped Out Performance of the Night Award - I wasn't able to make out a single rhyme). Huge achievement for the 20 year old rookie.

Keeping on this tweet action, this is what he said once he caught up to his nerves:

The Amount Of Hate I'm About To Get For Winning This Shit Is Crazy. Sick!

This statement is great for a 2 reasons:

1-He enjoys being hated on.
2-He got the hate in the form of GLAAD, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.

They claim that Tyler's win brings attention to his "violently anti-gay and misogynistic music". Now, he won the award due to receiving the most votes in this category (which included Wiz Khalifa and Foster the People). GLAAD had an answer for that claiming that MTV should not have nominated him. So they questioned why MTV gave Tyler a national (if not global) platform to spread his evil message.

Are GLAAD opportunists or steadfast defenders? I'm often weary of advocacy groups that jump in at an opportune time to get their message out. I'm not saying that I don't believe in what they're selling because I do to a certain extent. Everyone should have the opportunity to live as they are. But I didn't freak out when South Park made fun of my peeps with the "Kick a Ginger Day" or their swipes at Canadians.

According to my knowledge, GLAAD has not said a single word or publish a press release about Mr Tyler Controversy until now. What makes all of this even more ridiculous is that they are looking at MTV to be politically correct?! Now that's offensive! This is so Eminemish all over again. (Note: Tyler met Eminem recently in Ireland). The kid drops the word "f****t" a couple times and he's labeled a danger to the Gay Community. GLAAD is giving power to these words by trying to keep Tyler in check. Now, I'll tell you what's offensive: Lady Gaga making a fool of herself in drag during the award show and MTV's 5 Gays and 1 Girl. That shit just hurts my feelings on another level.

Tyler has said countless times that he isn't a homophobe, and this quote sums it up very nicely:

"If you call me a n***a, I really don't care, but that's just me, personally. Some people might take it the other way, I personally don't give a shit."

The world keeps turning and GLAAD can't wait until Tyler, the Creator grows up. I wouldn't hold my breath.
