The year is 1997. The event: The Masters Championship, arguably the most prestigious tournament in Pro Golf.
The coveted "Green Jacket" is on the line.
A then 21-year-old Eldrick "Tiger" Woods guns for his first-ever Major title. Most of us cheer the young golf sensation on to victory as he leaves the rest of his competition in the dust.
But some of his PGA Tour colleagues aren't as impressed as the rest of us ... particularly one Mr. Fuzzy Zoeller (drop the "o" Fuzzy ... all of us don't know that it's pronounced "Zeller").
Here's the context: Fuzzy is approached by reporters after finishing tied for 34th place. Referring to Tiger's stunning play throughout the Tournament, and also referencing the traditionally annual Masters Champions Dinner menu to be chosen the following year by the winner of the event, Fuzzy made the following comments (please excuse the quality of the video ... but it's the audio that matters here):
Now I don't know what's worse ... the actual comments themselves, OR the fact that Tiger later accepted an apology from Zoeller for this bullshit?!!? Some peeps have said this was just Fuzzy's attempt at being affable. I don't care ... no matter how you slice it, the comments were straight-up inappropriate.
Fuzzy, thanks for showing the world your true colours! And thanks for being memorable for all the wrong reasons.
