Friday Flashback - UK Pretty Boy Garage Edition

Craig David – Fill Me In

Do you guys remember Craig David?  Whatever happened to this guy??

The Brit took the North American music scene by storm back around 2000-2001 with his soulful croon and boyish good looks on his debut album Born To Do It.

"Fill Me In," the album's first single, blended R&B with the “Garage” (also known as 2-Step) sound that was blowing up in the UK at the time (Garage is pronounced like it rhymes with "carriage")

I remember so many girls loving him off back then .... it was pretty annoying to tell you the truth!

I know he put out a couple more records after his debut, but not much has been heard from him in recent years.  Reports indicate that a new record may surface this year.

We shall see...

Friday Flashback - One and Done Edition

-Spacehog "In The Meantime"

Do you remember this band called Spacehog?

This was the one big single they had off of their debut record Resident Alien.  And if I recall correctly, their lead singer, Royston Langdon, is now married (or was married) to Liv Tyler.

I remember seeing these guys live at an outdoor festival called Edenfest, which was held outside Toronto in '96 (I think?)

Wanna send this one out to an old friend, Tony Ashbee, who had this tune on a killer mix CD he used to play when we worked together a few years back!

James Blake's Naked Electronica

photo via deathandtaxesmag.com
The name "James Blake" keeps popping up whenever I read something discussing "Artists To Watch in 2011." Recently, the interweb has had quite a bit to say about this UK Dubstep Producer-turned-Artist and his brand of music...what I refer to as "Naked Electronica."  It's an unusually dark, bare-bones take on soul music and r&b, but with light, minimalist keyboard flourishes, and some other very interesting sounds.
